The big story this week among things such as Butterbean fighting for the World Toughman championship. The big fights out in Vegas that are coming soon to a home near you via HBO. Different issues in the political world and news and views from the left or right. However the story that has been a issue all week is the story of a St. Louis DJ calling Condi a coon on the radio.
Dave Lenihan formerly of KTRS in St. Louis, Mo. The other morning was running down the list of accomplishments of Miss Rice who has mentioned she wanted to be NFL commissioner for awhile. However when he meant to say “Coup”. He mentioned that Condi was a coon. Now he apologized quickly and he also went on the air and did so again. Before being fired by station management that day. Dave then on every place you could think of to talk of the issue. Hannity and Colmes, MSNBC's Countdown, etc. This dude was all over and was wanting to clear the air and also kiss Condi's ass in the process of doing these interviews.
I look at this issue as nothing more than a dude who wanted to not incur the wrath of other employers and get black balled from radio itself. However, he also wanted to clear the air and make people know he was not a raciest. I look at this as a way for him to gain employment again but when he made an appearance on another program. This dude came off as he was in fear of the Bush administration. I think he is legiti scared of poss. Outcomes from this issue. So basically he wants his job back and is in fear of the higher ups in Washington.
The good issue here is he went on the offensive early and made sure that he kept his name out there and did not want people to judge him and also maybe gain a job out of all the press coverage he was able to get. I think that he was hoping to turn a bad thing and turn into a new opportunity for himself. This guy was litterly everywhere and also begging for his job as well. I think he thought, he could go on all these places and then his former employers would say, “Hey your famous, come on back and work here.”However I think he will never work in radio again. One, cause radio is a wacky biz, you screw up and your gone, not like TV where you could butcher job after job and could come back better than ever.
The issue I was hoping this guy would do, instead of being so sorry all the sudden and everywhere. He could have gotten a new carrier out of this, he could have become a big time racist and maybe had gotten a new carrier. He could have gotten a job with Stern over at Sirius. Think about it, he could go on all these shows and say, “You know I aint sorry, I think she is a damn coon.” Imagen all the flack this dude would have gotten.
Finally, my take on this issue is basically this guy is a week 1 in and out story. He has no staying power and will not be heard from again. He will be hired I am sure again in some form somewhere. He could go out and peddle his wears somewhere and get a job but he will have to do it after this blows over. If he goes back out tomorrow and trys he will not work again because like I mentioned earlier it;'s a wacky biz, radio.
