THIS WEEK'S COLUMN WAS BORROWED BY MY BROADCASTER PAL, FRANK COTOLO FROM HIS BLOG AT
Cotolo Blog (http://cotolotalk.blogstream.com)
Is it, or is it not, time to address one of the most important issues of these times? I ask you, now, here, not to judge what I am calling one of the most important issues of these times, but to accept that it is and to think only if now is the time to take it up, to roll it around, to understand it or dismiss it or more importantly, to take a stand.
If you don't know what could be one of the most important issues of these times then I ask you another question: How can you establish what is one of the most important issues of these times? Surely there are many important issues. Or are there?
Could we take all of the so-called important issues of our times and merge them into one, specifically one that would be the most important issues of these times? Is that possible?
It is not possible if you don't answer the first question. But you cannot unless you agree that it is one of the most important issues of these times.
To others in other times, this issue might not be focused upon or calculated or thought about or talked over or spelled correctly. Other times brought other issues, important or meaningless based on those times. But even then, people had to know how to answer the first question. When was it time to address one of the most important issues of their times?
Certainly we can wait, we can kick it aside, put it on the shelf, hide it under the rug but then it would be the white gorilla in the room. And we all know that white gorillas are rare, as well as they might be dangerous and perhaps more dangerous than the normal, darker gorillas. But if there were just a white gorilla in the room that would be enough for us to be aware that we did not address one of the more important issues of our times, even if I was the only one to believe it is that important.
Of course you do believe that it is these times, right? You must if you are going to agree with me that the issue is important in these times, our times. Forget about the gorilla, look at the calendar. You have to see that these are our times, that we are in these times together, that none of us can get into a time machine and go to other times. That cannot happen.
But how could you say these are any other times than they are our times? You would be crazy to try to prove these times are any other times. Then what? We would have to check into your life and see if you were acting in other areas as if these are not our times. If you are living in the past you will wind up being affected by things you deny, because those things are issues of our times, not past times.
This is why I have come to write this here, today, using all of my fingers on the keyboard and every ounce of energy left in a long day that included washing clothes, mowing lawns, feeding chickens, cooking, reading, talking on the phone and laying pipe for a sewer I am trying to build in my backyard. Still I come here and I work at communicating with you in order to serve our community with the best we can offer. All right, the best you can offer. There, I said it. You take on the burden and the responsibility.
Or die.
Now, I must leave you with the questions so you can answer them clearly with without good fortune. If you want me, I will be here, playing chess with a white gorilla.
