This week I have been dealing with PC upgrades and PC crashes and trying to get things together for the radio and TV shows plus we have Sample Text and our inside battles with Access TV. Well folks it boiled over at NBC this week as well. Jay Leno and Connan o Brian have been duking it out. SNL has lampooned it and people on other networks have gotten into the battle, wow what a bad week for NBC. Fox News has been using it as a way to get Jeff Zucker at NBC canned. I for one thing think it's a hell of a battle with the only winners being the crowd that watches this crap like a car accident.
Let's examine the history here, NBC years ago hired Jay Leno to take over for Carson when he retired. A battle for Letterman wanting to get the spot he thought should have been his, insued with NBC duking it out with both, I do not need to explain this, if you want to know about and how Jay got in this spot read the book or see the movie “The Late Shift”. However let's fast forward to the point we are now with Connan and Jay. Jay was talking about leaving when his contract was up, NBC went with passing the torch and doing it right. Jay determined he did not want to hang it up, so to speak. So he went and wanted to leave and go somewhere else. NBC panicked and kept him around and gave him a show. Both shows tanked in the numbers and now NBC wants to remake it's image.
So NBC went out and told Jay back to the tonight show slot and Connan back to his old timeslot and anyone else is bumped an hr or hr ½. Connan started yelling and screaming and Jay is put into a bad spot. People have took shots and all at NBC, so what happens is now we have a drama and somethin that will not end and eventually will cost NBC 1 or both guys and tons of money. I think what oughta happen is that NBC let Connan go to another network and try to take his chances there. If he has numbers good, if he does not, good. Let Jay come back and try to recapture that audience at the old slot.
My take on this mess is I have never been a fan of either guy. Jay could go back to the “Tonight Show” and I would still not watch it. Connan could go back to his old timeslot and I won;t watch it. Connan going or leaving NBC, I could care less. WATCH LETTERMAN!
