Weekly rant:11-30-2009 Years Being Married

This week we are coming after them again, no we are just going to be light hearted this week with all the Seasons greetings,etc. {God I hate Holidays}. However the folks who bring you the Rant are in the loving mood, I celebrate my 3 years of being married to my lovely wife, who has not been around for,well 3 years? I also have my teeth out on the day of the Wedding Anniv{So at the end of the day my wife and my bottom left wisdom teeth will have something in common, they both are not with me anymore.} However this week I want to talk about the recent Fred Phelps protest and anti protest along with the recent death of a A Los Angeles Times sportswriter who made headlines by announcing he was becoming a woman, then returned to work as a man, has been found dead in a suspected suicide, the paper reported on Saturday.

I attended the protest of Fred Phelps last week in Salina Kansas when they protested the Salina Journal. Now also attending the protest was anti protesters from area high schools. Now I interviewed the protesters, they had their bible logic right. They presented themselves well and all they did was have their signs and were protesting. Now I am not a fan of the Phelps people however I figured they should have their say. So I ended up going across the street and before I did, I talked to the head of the Phelps group and they talked about how the anti protesters were worshiping themselves and other bible related jargon for Twitter and my space,etc.

I go across the street and guess what I see a bunch of yelling and screaming kids. Hell I thought I was in day care. They always say a few bad apples spoil the bunch, and damn well did it happen this time. I was hearing the most fowl crap come flying across the street at the Phelps people. Such as one time I heard when I was interviewing the Phelps people, “Go home you fucking fagots” or God loves everyone but you! That really helps their message and gets the point across. What I thought was great was the fact most of these punks were there because it was a social gathering, not a common goal. They wanted a place to scream and yell and not get punished.

My view on this is simple, why should we put up 1st off with either party. I think if the Phelps people would have shown up and not an issue would have been caused. However the anti protesters showed up and got no message across and came across as people who wanted attention. They always give the Phelps people more run. Do not pay attention and they should go away but they do not. Finally I think the world is a better place for all this. I will say this column had high hopes but it crashed and burned like my marriage.
