This week we will chat about the upcoming digital transition coming in 2009. Now I remember back in the day when technology was not being forced on us. I remember back when TV started and people who could afford it bought one. Radio was something that people had, then the newspaper. So that means that radio, tv, and newspapers all coexisted. This is the thing that happened and everyone was fine with it. However with this upcoming digital transition we now have forced technology and I frankly can not faking stand this and wish it would stop. What this is, most tv's if not all get an analog signal and in 2009 all stations will become digital. Growth and change was supposed to be something that has happened not that the new cool technology is being forced on everyone.
Technology has evolved records and tapes and cd's coexisted, that meant if you went to your local record shop, you had options. For instance if you went out and had records for your record player and then your kid had cd's and your friends have tapes. It's all the same format and the same music and everyone is happy. However, now it's not the case. You have to be a CD man or your screwed. What happened to the days of a stereo having cd's and record needle and a tape player and can do all sorts of stuff. Now if you go out and get a brand new sound system, you must have cds or nothing.
Newspaper and internet choice is yours. What I mean here is for instance in Salina Kansas. Salina.com is the online version of the Salina Journal. The Journal is a newspaper but now has gone online because people are losing interest in the newspaper industry. I get up and can get the paper or just go online and read it there. However if I want to read everything and make sense of Salina, I must have the paper. However now you have people getting into the game of making you choose 1 way or another.
This brings us to the digital transition, the forcing of cable boxes on the world of cable viewers. I remember back in 2001, I was not going to rent a cable box and when I took it back. The cable mobster told me, that some day you will have to have a box and there would be no choice. Now we have this coming in 2009. When did this happen? So your telling me that people like my grandma who refused to have a cable box, will be shut out of the world of TV. Poor families who have to choose between food or cable. Guess what little Tommy is getting Spongebob instead of Sponge cake. What has happened to this country?
I see a report on the net earlier last week and guess what people are moving towards IPODS and jump drives? CD's will be gone in 5 years, so basically your telling me that everyone will have to have a IPOD or Zune or Mp3 player or your fucked on music. I have to tell you this, it SUCKS! Ipod's are not the end all be all of music and that means that the CD industry is going bye bye. So basically if something crashes and you lose the digital stuff, you are fucked and have to start over. When did technology get forced on us? I urge you to stand up and keep these things like 8 tracks, records,cd's and cassette tapes alive.
