Weekly Rant: UFC becoming Boxing and Pro Wrestling{10/28/2009}

This last Saturday night, we saw The UFC put on a show, The Ufc has not put on an event in a while. A lot of fans went out and bought and went to sports bars to see the event. The UFC put together some great matches. They went threw every aspect of a UFC, from knockouts to great submissions to even a judges determination. The UFC also had a main event of 2 titans with the champion being a Karate fighter and the challenger being a Vale Tudo, no rules fighter of yester year. The UFC had a controversial ending main event. The world got it's UFC fix for one evening and got things built into the big shows in Nov. in the UK and the next defense of Brock Lesner from the old WWF.

The fix was in from the beginning in my take on the main event with Shogun and Machida. I believe with the Karate style that he had compared to the Shogun bull in china shop style. I believe that Shogun won the fight, I am not alone. Dana White the head of the UFC said that he thought Shogun had won the match. I think they need to have an imminent rematch but I would suggest they do that match when the UFC does a UK event so we can see what truly happens when they hold it overseas. However people can bicker about the decision however let's go for a rematch in a few months.

Internet wanted more, The INTERNET public wanted Shogun to be more aggressive, The fans of the champion wanted more aggressive, I believe we should have had a cheer leading squad out there chanting B aggressive...BEE aggressive! The INTERNET wanted more out of this fight but keep in mind the INTERNET wanted more just because it's the INTERNET, a lot of fans bitch a lot about fights coming in and going out. I think the match should just be a rematch and just go with that.

Sports fans wanted more, The scene at the Speakeasy where I watched the fight. They did not like the plodding, chess type like match. The folks there wanted a slug fest and wanted the match to be a street fight between the Vale Tudo Star in Shogun and the brutal side of the Karate master, Machida. I think the world known as the UFC needs to just make a rematch and the folks at the Sports bars would fill up with people wanting to see the rematch. However one point being that the sports bar crowd would not be happy unless there was a brutal stand up war.

What can the UFC do? Now the folks on line who want the title stripped would not be getting what they want. The UFC can not just strip a fighter and give another fighter the belt. The Commission would not be happy because they would see themselves as getting hammered. The fans of the winner would be pissed and there could be lawsuits by the Machida camp if this takes place. So what can UFC do? Let's just sanction a rematch within a few months announce it for March or April and people would count down the days for the match. The hype machine could get rolling and it would be a HUGE fight even if they made it for a TV program like Spike or something else.

My take on this matter is simple, I think Shogun should have won and I wanted Shogun to win. However Shogun did not want to get caught with some crazy Karate crap. The Shogun camp should have known if he got to be aggressive, The Karate man would not put up with that crap but one thing Machida did not want to do was be too aggressive and get into the war with Shogun.

Finally let's look at the odds of a rematch taking place, Yes Dana will make this and use this as a way to make a ton of cash for UFC around the world. The folks at the Athletic commission have been bitched at and about before, like they could care less about this. The people at the UFC would like to keep their fans happy. So they will just take this on the cheek and go forward with it.
